Favignana (Sicilian Faugnana) is an island of Italy belonging to the archipelago of the Egadi Islands, Sicily. The main island of the Egadi is about 7 km from the western coast of Sicily, between Trapani and Marsala, in front of the Isles of the Stagnone. The name of Favignana derives from the Latin favonius (favonio), the term by which the Romans indicated the warm fall wind coming from the west. The village rises around a natural cove where the harbor is structured on its banks where the ancient Florio tuna buildings are located. The traditional Mediterranean architecture of the island, characterized by white plastering and blue or green windows, have been rediscovered and valorised especially in recent years.
