Island with a very strong image, not to be missed on a tour of the Aeolian Islands.
The island of Stromboli has an area of 12.6 sq km. This island is the last of the Aeolian archipelago to have emerged from the sea, and is included in the municipality of Lipari. Characterized like all the Aeolian islands by volcanic origins, the appearance of the island was in all probability preceded by the birth of Strombolicchio, a small volcano about a mile away from the island. It is undoubtedly an island with a particular and mysterious charm, thanks above all to the famous volcano about 926 meters high which dominates it and is perennially active; the island can be inhabited because the eruptive material is spilled only at the Sciara del fuoco to the north-east of the island. The almost total lack of roads, the wild-looking landscape, but above all, the looming volcano that methodically recalls its presence with puffs of fire and lapilli, exert a strange and singular attraction on the visitor.
