The Tonnara di Capo Passero is a splendid monument of industrial archaeology, located at the extreme tip of Paloalto. The tuna fishery is abandoned, but still enjoys an excellent state of conservation.
The loggia and the tuna processing plant, the large furnace, the barrel (or salt) warehouses, here the tuna arrived which, slaughtered and processed, have constituted a fundamental economic resource for the entire population over the centuries. Among the ruins of the structures, the warehouses and buildings for the processing and conservation of tuna can still be appreciated, organized around the space of the loggia, the heart of the Tonnara. In particular, it was the warehouse of the sorra, the most refined product of the whole series of tunas, and the warehouse of coarse salt that made this place a fundamental source of income for the place.
