The famous papal escape route that connects the Vatican with Castel Sant'Angelo. It can be visited by reservation.
In 1494 the Passetto allowed Pope Alexander VI (Rodrigo Borgia) to take refuge in Castello during the invasion of Rome by the troops of Charles VIII of France. In 1527 Pope Clement VII (Giulio de' Medici) also took refuge in Castello, via the Passetto, during the Sack of Rome carried out by the lansquenets of Charles V.
