RMS Queen Mary is an ocean liner which served on the Southampton-Cherbourg-New York route from 1936 to 1967 for the Cunard Line (then known as Cunard-White Star).
The ship was conceived as a British response to the German, French and Italian ocean liners which in the 1920s and 1930s had wrested from the British the primacy of the largest and fastest passenger ships in the world.
