Il Museo Egizio (arabo المتحف المصري) al Cairo è il più grande museo al mondo di arte egizia antica. Contiene opere di epoche diverse della storia culturale dell'antico Egitto: Storia antica, Thinitenzeit, Antico Regno, Regno medio, Nuovo Regno, Terzo periodo intermedio e Periodo tardo e Periodo greco-romano. Situato in Al Tahrir Square, nel centro del Cairo, è stato costruito nel 1900 secondo i piani dell'architetto francese Marcel Dourgnon in stile neoclassico. L'apertura è avvenuta nel 1902. Carrier è l'autorità attuale Supreme Council of Antiquities, ex Servizio delle Antichità della Repubblica Araba d'Egitto.

The Egyptians left us a map to know who they were. Using my knowledge of traditional figurative sculpture I have found the way in which the pyramids were built. I would be happy to share how they were able to make such massive buildings within a mm of precision but I paid dearly to learn the knowledge and understanding and would not give the secrets away for free. I am open to teaching the same principles they used in a lecture type setting. mystery solved!

A really impressive collection of items. I found the mummies in particular very interesting. They could make much more in terms of storytelling and education though. Most things are just standing there and you have no clue what it really is. Despite of this, it is definitely a must for every tourist or Traveller.

It's been a few years since I visited but until the new Giza museum is opened this is still the home of the Tutankhamen treasures. To appreciate it fully, you need to spend at least a full day (if not two here). Many of the exhibits are poorly labelled so at least a reasonable Knowledge of Egyptology (or a good guidebook) are essential. Aside from the Tutankhamen exhibit, be sure to locate the amazing statues of Akhenaten.
