A masterpiece of Islamic architecture Mosque of Ibn Tulun

The Ibn Tulun Mosque is one of the largest and oldest in Egypt. It was built between the years 876 and 879 AD. by an Abbasid governor sent to Egypt from Baghdad. Known as the "Friday mosque", its open arched courtyard is large enough to hold the entire male community gathered for prayers on the holiest day of the week.
