The Botanical and Geological Park and the famous Alcantara River Gorges are the main naturalistic and tourist attractions of the Alcantara Valley. The Park, founded over 50 years ago to spread the knowledge and use of the Alcantara Valley and its Gorges, extends over about 100 hectares intended for citrus groves, olive groves, pastures and woods and falls within the Alcantara River Regional Park (established in 2011).
The Alcantara Gorges, also called "Gole di Larderia", are located in the Alcantara Valley in Sicily where the Peloritani mountain range ends between the municipalities of Castiglione di Sicilia and Motta Camastra. The Alcantara river flows between lava stone which forms its characteristic bed. On the territory of Motta Camastra in Fondaco Motta there is the most imposing and famous gorge of the Alcantara, more than 6 km long but easily passable for the first 3. An ideal destination for various activities such as river trekking and body rafting .
