A unique masterpiece. Designed by Antonio Galli Bibiena between 1767 and 1769.
The bell-shaped theater is arranged on several orders of wooden boxes, whose interiors, with monochrome figures, were frescoed by Bibiena himself. The theater is framed by statues of illustrious Mantuans such as Virgil, Bertazzolo, Pomponazzo and B.Castiglioni. It was officially inaugurated on December 3, 1769 by the fourteen-year-old Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in a memorable concert, which determined its lucky destiny.
