The project of the Basilica of Sant' Andrea bears the signature of Leon Battista Alberti. After Alberti died in 1472, the church was built by Luca Fancelli, the chief architect of the 15th century from Mantua, who completed it in 1494. In the very rich pictorial furnishings, the signatures of Andrea Mantegna, of his pupil Antonio Allegri known as Correggio, of Giulio Romano and his pupils, by Domenico Fetti, Francesco Borgani, Giorgio Anselmi, Rinaldo Mantovano, Felice Campi and Andreasino.
