Perhaps in Roman times it was the mythical Tibula, in the Middle Ages it was certainly an impregnable fortress for centuries, protected by mighty walls and 17 towers, until the advent of modern weapons. The original nucleus of Castelsardo was built around the Doria castle, dating back, according to tradition, to 1102, but more likely to the end of the 13th century, the current seat of the evocative Mediterranean Weaving museum, one of the most visited in Sardinia.
