Muir Woods National Monument

Park San Francisco, California

Tree's temple Muir Woods National Monument

Muir Woods National Monument is a protected forest located a few miles north of San Francisco in Marin County, California. This area is famous for its evergreen redwoods and owes its name to John Muir, a famous American naturalist. The evergreen redwoods are relatives of the famous giant sequoias and are famous for their height, in fact they can grow up to 115 meters above the ground. The tallest tree in the park measures approximately 79 meters and the average age of these trees is between 500 and 800 years old, with the oldest ones exceeding 1,200 years of age.

Follow the designated walkways, made to preserve the vulnerable sequoia's roots and be amazed by these trees, straight and higher than a building, sometimes over a century old, rising above your head up until 250ft. To live an unforgettable experience, check the park scheduled activities and book a sunset guided tour or hear the tales told by the volunteers or rangers of the Park. In order to overcome the parking problem in high season, the best way to get there is taking the public shuttle to Muir Woods (from March to October) from Sausalito or to book a shuttle in a travel or tour agency.
