The eighteenth-century Basilica of San Martino is the main church of the city of Martina Franca, in the province of Taranto. Dedicated to Martin of Tours, the basilica was built from 1747 to 1785 on a previous Romanesque church. In April 1998 Pope John Paul II elevated it to the dignity of Pontifical minor basilica. In 2002, it was declared a "monument herald of a culture of peace" by UNESCO.
