Polignano a Mare (in the Bari dialect, called Polignano until 1863) is an Italian town of 18,023 inhabitants in the metropolitan city of Bari. The oldest nucleus of the town stands on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Adriatic Sea 33 kilometers south of the capital. The country's economy is essentially based on tourism and horticulture. Of notable naturalistic interest are its sea caves and historically important are the historic center and the remains of Roman domination. Since 2008, Polignano a Mare has always received the Blue Flag, thanks to the quality of the water and the services offered.
