Castel del Monte is a 13th century fortress built by the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II on the western Murge plateau in Puglia, in the current homonymous hamlet of the municipality of Andria, in the province of Barletta-Andria-Trani. It was included in the list of Italian national monuments in 1936 and in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1996. In 2014 it was the thirtieth most visited Italian state site, with 206924 visitors.
