Very close to Porta Rudiae is the Basilica del Rosario. The splendid factory, dating back to 1659 -1691, stands on the site where Giovanni d'Aymo had founded between 1388 and 1408 the convent and church of the Preacher friars.
The seventeenth-century building is the last attributed to the well-known architect Giuseppe Zimbalo, who died shortly after and was buried here. The prospectus is divided into two orders by a balustrade with statues; below, the large central portal is surmounted by the statue of Saint Dominic of Guzman and is flanked by two fluted spiral columns with decorated capitals; above, the large central window is flanked by trophies of flowers; another balustrade divides the second order from the tympanum with a great plastic effect. The Greek cross plan, flanked by chapels of baronial families, must have originally been covered by a dome that was never finished. The current roof is made of wooden trusses. At the base of the pillars of the nave it is also possible to see the signatures of all the nobles who donated money for the construction of the church. The pulpit is the only one of the Lecce churches to be made of Lecce stone.
