The Vittoriale degli Italiani is a complex of buildings, streets, squares, an open-air theatre, gardens and waterways built between 1921 and 1938 in Gardone Riviera by Gabriele d'Annunzio based on a project by the architect Giancarlo Maroni. in memory of the "inimitable life" of the poet-soldier and of the exploits of the Italians during the First World War. The Vittoriale today is a foundation open to the public and visited by around 210,000 people each year.
