The Sentiero del Ponale connects Riva del Garda to the Ledro valley. The construction of the road began in 1800 when excavations began in the surrounding rock. Since 2004 it has been transformed into a path, where it is allowed to pass both on foot and by bike. Ponale is famous not only for its fantastic view of the lake, but also for the military apparatus visible along the way. At the height of the second and third gallery are the remains of the Tagliata del Ponale, a large fortification built by the Austrians starting in 1860, made up of tunnels dug into the rock and trenches.
