Among the seven wonders of the world, the Great Wall of China stretches across the mountains of northern China, enveloping part of Beijing and giving history a timeless work. The Great Wall of China was built more than 2,000 years ago, by Qin Shi Huangdi, the first emperor of China during the Qin (Ch'in) dynasty (221 BC – 206 BC). In Chinese the Wall is called "Wan-Li Qang-Qeng", which means wall 10,000 Li long (10,000 Li = about 5,000 km).
The Great Wall is one of the largest building construction projects ever completed. It stretches across the mountains of northern China, enveloping its territory north and northwest of Beijing. The Wall is built in masonry, rocks and clay. Its thickness varies from about 4.5 to 9 meters and reaches 7.5 meters in height.
