The Amalfi Coast is the stretch of Campania coast, located south of the Sorrento peninsula, which overlooks the Gulf of Salerno; it is bordered to the west by Positano and to the east by Vietri sul Mare. It is a stretch of coast famous throughout the world for its natural beauty, home to important tourist settlements. Considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, it takes its name from the city of Amalfi, the central nucleus of the coast not only geographically, but also historically.
Its natural beauties and its picturesque landscapes have made it, especially after the Second World War, one of the favorite destinations of the world jet set, a reason that has earned it the nickname of "Divine Coast". Among the celebrities who have chosen the Amalfi Coast over the years as their beloved oasis to stay, we can mention: the first lady Jacqueline Kennedy, King Vittorio Emanuele III of Savoy, the entrepreneur Gianni Agnelli, the actresses Grace Kelly, Greta Garbo and Sophia Loren as well as the dancer Rudolf Nureyev. The Amalfi coast is also known for some typical products, such as limoncello, a liqueur obtained from local lemons (sfusato amalfitano), anchovies and fish preserves produced in Cetara, and hand-made and hand-painted ceramics in Vietri.
