Palazzo Barbieri is a neoclassical building designed by the engineer Giuseppe Barbieri, who was also the author of the Monumental Cemetery. Construction began in 1836 and was completed in 1848. During the Austrian occupation the building, which had been given the name of Gran Guardia Nuova, was mainly used for warfare, placing the headquarters of the Imperial Royal Command of the City and Fortress. Palazzo Barbieri opens its doors to citizens with guided tours, the tour itinerary (booking required) allows you to learn more about the history of Piazza Bra and Palazzo Barbieri, in particular the Sala Arazzi.
