Stanley Park is a 404.9-hectare city park located in Vancouver, bordering the historic downtown area. The park, which opened in 1888, is estimated to have about eight million visitors a year, and is one of Vancouver's major tourist attractions. Much of the park is forest with an estimated half a million trees, some reaching heights of 70 meters and more than a century old.
Within the park there are approximately 200 km of paths and roads, patrolled by the mounted police of the Vancouver Police Department. The Project for Public Spaces ranked Stanley Park as the 16th best park in the world and 6th in North America.
