Ueno Park (上野公園 Ueno-kōen) is a spacious public park located in the Ueno area of the Taitō special ward in Tokyo, Japan. The park was established in 1873, with lands previously belonging to the Buddhist temple of Kan'ei-ji, following the process of assimilation of Western practices of the Meiji Renewal. Home to several major museums, Ueno Park is also known for its spring cherry blossom (hanami) celebration. The park and its attractions have attracted over ten million visitors a year, making it one of Japan's most popular city parks.
