Wat Rong Khun is a recently built building located 15 kilometers from the city of Chiang Rai. It is a very special temple both Buddhist and Hindu, designed by the visionary painter Chalermchai Kositpipat. Its construction began in 1997, on the "model" of the Sagrada Familia, and its conclusion is approximately estimated for 2070. It is made entirely of white plaster and mirrors which, reflecting the sun, create plays of light.
The temple has been partly criticized by indigenous peoples as being "against local tradition", which calls for an architectural style based on vivid and gaudy colours.
