Wat Phra Singh is a Buddhist temple in Chiang Mai. This temple is located in the western part of Chiang Mai's old town, contained within the city walls and moat. The construction of Wat Phra Singh began in 1345 when King Phayu, the fifth king of the Mangrai dynasty, had a chedi built to house the ashes of his father King Kham Fu.
King Ananda Mahidol (Rama VIII), the elder brother of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX), granted it the status of a royal temple of the first degree in 1935.
