Thailand’s Floating Muslim Fishing and Football Village Ko Panyi

Ko Panyi is a fishing village in Phang Nga province, known to be built on stilts by Indonesian fishermen. The population consists of 360 families (1685 people), descendants of two Muslim seafaring families from Java. This village houses: a school, a mosque and a market stocked with goods from the mainland. In addition, the village includes a floating football pitch, inspired by the 1986 FIFA World Cup.
