The Singapore Botanic Gardens is a 158-year-old tropical garden located on the edge of Singapore's Orchard Road shopping district. The Botanic Gardens was established in 1859 on its current site by an agri-horticultural society. Aided by the equatorial climate, it houses the largest collection of orchids of 1200 species and 2000 hybrids. It is one of three gardens and the only tropical garden to have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
