The Palazzo Pubblico of Siena (also called Palazzo Comunale) is a building built approximately between 1297 and 1310 by the Government of the Nine of the Republic of Siena, as its headquarters. This function is also reflected today, as the seat of the municipal administration, as well as the civic museum. It stands on Piazza del Campo and is flanked by the slender Torre del Mangia. Inside it preserves masterpieces from the golden age of Sienese art, including the famous fresco of the Allegory and effects of Good and Bad Government by Ambrogio Lorenzetti, among the most significant profane representations of fourteenth-century Europe, and other famous works by Simone Martini, Duccio di Buoninsegna, Sodom and Beccafumi.
