Open to the public all year round on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, the Torrile and Trecasa Nature Reserve is home to more than 300 species of birds.
The best period for observation is spring, when from the observation huts you can spot the colorful Squacco Herons fishing on the leaves of the yellow water lily. However, it is possible to observe all the species of Italian herons that nest in the heronry of international importance with about 500 pairs. Then the ducks: colorful the males, mimetic the females. During the migrations it is also possible to observe numerous flocks of Mallard, Pintail, Shoveler, Wigeon, Teal, Garganey, Pochard and Gadwall. But the species that most attracts visitors' attention in spring is the Black-winged Stilt, unmistakable for its very long red legs, black and white plumage and thin beak. An excellent day immersed in nature.
