Hondarribia is a Spanish municipality of 15,044 inhabitants located in the autonomous community of the Basque Country. Hondarribia was historically known as Fuenterrabía, a name it still has in Castilian. It preserves the remains of walls (15th century) with some mighty bastions from the second half of the 16th century built by Vespasiano Gonzaga, the famous Italian leader in the service of Philip II of Spain. Of notable interest are the Gothic church of Santa Maria and the Castle, now transformed into a hotel.
