The palace of the Grand Masters of the Knights of Rhodes is located in Rhodes city and represents the culmination of the World Heritage fortifications.
"Fortress within the fortress", the palace was the nerve center of the "Collachium", the quarter of the knights, as well as an extreme refuge for the city population in times of danger. The main portal stands out, with two protruding twin towers, with a horseshoe plan and swallowtail battlements. The coat of arms over the main entrance belongs to the grand master Hélion de Villeneuve, in office from 1319 to 1346. Other towers and battlements along the perimeter were organized in such a way as to be able to resist an attack even in the event of breaches in the walls.
