Mayon is an active stratovolcano located in Albay Province, Luzon, Philippines and known as "the perfect cone" due to its regular conical shape. The name of the volcano originates from local folklore associating it with the legend of the beautiful heroine Daragang Magayon. The cone that can be seen today was formed thanks to pyroclastic flows and from lava eruptions in the past. Mayon is the most active of the active volcanoes in the Philippines, having erupted approximately 50 times in the past 400 years.
