Huanchaco is a popular beach vacation spot in the city of Trujillo, near the ancient ruins of Chan Chan. The original population of Huanchaco were indigenous fishermen, who worshiped the moon and a golden fish called Huaca Taska.
This location was approved as a World Surfing Reserve by the Save The Waves Coalition organization in 2012. Huanchaco is part of the tourist circuit called "Moche Route" or "Ruta Moche".
