The Ferrocarril Central del Peru is one of the two major railway lines that currently exist in Peru. It begins in the Callao and reaches up to La Oroya, where it divides into two main ramifications, one towards the north in the direction of Cerro de Pasco and one towards the south in the direction of Huancayo. It has an extension of 535 km, and is known as the highest railway in America and the second highest in the world.
