Cajamarca is a city in the northern plateau of Peru, located at about 2,700 meters above sea level. Its foundation, as remote as that of Cuzco, precedes the invasion of the conquistadors and can be dated to around 1370. It is remembered above all for the historical events linked to the Spanish colonization and the end of the Inca Empire known as the "Facts of Cajamarca". One of the most emblematic moments in the history of relations between Europe and America took place in this city: the meeting between the Inca emperor Atahualpa and the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro.
