The Ballestas Islands are a group of small islands near the city of Paracas. Composed largely of rock formations and with an estimated area of 0.12 km², these islands are an important sanctuary for marine fauna such as the guanay bird and Humboldt penguins. Ballestas Islands are accessible from the tourist city of Paracas, with a boat tour that usually lasts 2 hours, during which it is possible to admire the sea lions up close.
