Wall Street Bull

Statue New York, New York

Touch Wall Street’s lucky charm Wall Street Bull

The Charging Bull, symbol of New York's financial district, is one of the most photographed attractions in New York, almost on par with the Statue of Liberty.

Symbol of American capitalism and also a symbol of luck for all those who bet on the stock market, the Wall Street bull however has a curious story behind it. Try to imagine the surprised faces of Wall Street brokers when on the morning of December 16, 1989 they went to the Stock Exchange building and found in front of the entrance, under the Christmas tree, a bronze sculpture of a bull from weighing 3.2 tons and almost 5 meters long that no one had commissioned. And the funniest thing is that while everyone was scrambling to figure out who was responsible for what was initially considered a joke, the author was blissfully standing next to the work distributing promotional flyers for his business. This unexpected gift was the work of the Italian sculptor Arturo di Modica, who after the stock market crash of 1987 decided to create the statue by paying the not exactly modest sum of 360,000 dollars out of his own pocket to give strength and hope to those affected by the financial disaster. This statue aroused such interest that the Town Hall decided not to remove it and today it is one of the symbolic monuments of the city.
