The World Trade Center Transportation Hub, better known by the name of Oculus, is the new transportation hub of the city of Lower Manhattan in the underground area between towers 2 and 3 of the World Trade Center.
The immense White structure is characterized by the stupendous glass vault that comes out of the ground and rises towards the sky, as if to symbolically represent the rebirth of the city of New York after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. In fact, the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava with Oculus wanted to depict a white dove freed from the hands of a child. One of the key points of Oculus is also the Westfield World Trade Center, a shopping center inaugurated on August 16, 2016 which develops on several floors on the sides of the structure, managed entirely by the Westfield Corporation. The new shopping center replaces the famous The Mall, which was located at the World Trade Center and which was destroyed during the attacks.
