The Metropolitan Museum, located on Museum Mile, is the most important museum in New York and one of the most important in the world. The Met's permanent collection contains more than two million works of art, divided into nineteen sections.
Works dating back to classical antiquity and ancient Egypt, paintings and sculptures by almost all the greatest European masters are permanently exhibited at the Met. and a large collection of US and modern art. This famous museum also possesses a significant amount of African, Asian, Oceanian, Byzantine and Islamic artworks. In the galleries of the museum, important reconstructions of interiors are always on display, ranging from first-century Rome to modern American design. In addition to the permanent exhibit, the Met organizes and hosts major traveling exhibitions throughout the year.
