Namche Bazar is a village in south-eastern Nepal, in the administrative area of Sagarmatha, located at the foot of the Himalayas at an altitude of 3,440 metres. The village is home to the headquarters of Sagarmatha National Park, which includes many famous Himalayan peaks. A traditional market takes place there on Saturday mornings where locals sell their wares to Namche Bazar residents and tourists.
Namche Bazar is known as the main starting point towards many peaks of the Himalayas. Many visitors stay a day or more in the village to acclimate to the altitude before embarking on hiking or mountaineering expeditions.
