Kathmandu Durbar Square, located in front of the old Royal Palace, is one of three Durbar Squares in the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal. Each of them has also been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. The square has housed the palaces of the Malla dynasty and the Shahs who ruled the city. Along these palaces, Kathamandu Durbar Square, creates quadrilaterals revealing courtyards and temples. Several buildings in the square collapsed due to the strong earthquake of April 25, 2015.
Kathamandu Square was surrounded by spectacular architecture and still showcases the skills of Newari artists and craftsmen over the centuries.
