Piazza del Plebiscito is the main square of Naples, located at the end of via Toledo, just past piazza Trieste e Trento. Located in the historic centre, with an area of about 25,000 square meters, the square is one of the largest in the city and in Italy and for this reason it is the most used for large events. Piazza del Plebiscito can be divided into two distinct parts: the first is at the foot of the Basilica and follows a semicircular shape, while the other has a rectangular shape.
Palazzo Salerno on the south side of the piazza and to the north, Palazzo della Prefettura, home to Naples famed Caffe Gambrinus. In the center sit two bronze equestrian statues, Charles III of Spain and Ferdinand I of the Two Sicilies. A 25,000 square meter open air arena set between the city and the sea, Piazza del Plebiscito is the canvas for large scale contemporary art installations, the backdrop for the greatest New Years Eve fireworks show on earth and the stage for some of the greatest names in music – Massimo Ranieri, Sir Elton John, Andrea Bocelli, Sting, and Pino Danielle just to name a few.
