Münchner Residenz

Palace Munich, Germany

The former royal palace Münchner Residenz

The Munich Residence (German: Münchner Residenz), located in the city center of Munich, was for centuries the residence and seat of government of the dukes, then the prince-electors and finally the kings of Bavaria.

The enormous structure encloses ten courtyards and is divided into three main complexes: the Königsbau (towards Max-Joseph-Platz), the Maximilianische Residenz (also called the "old residence", whose facade overlooks Residenzstraße and which includes a large of the inner wing) and the Festsaalbau (towards the Hofgarten). From a stylistic point of view, the Residence presents a mixture of Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo and Classicism styles.
