The BMW Museum (BMW Museum, in German) is located in the immediate vicinity of the Munich Olympic Center and was opened in 1972 shortly before the start of the 1972 Olympic Games. Next to the museum is the famous BMW Tower, the building where the world headquarters of the BMW car manufacturer is based. The museum deals with the history of the propeller house. In addition to historic cars, prototypes of models that will eventually be built in the future are also on display.
The futuristic silver building, which looks like a giant bowl from the outside and is popularly known as a "salad bowl" or "cereal bowl", was designed by the Viennese architect Karl Schwanzer who had also designed the BMW skyscraper.
