Maestà Sofferente

Temporary installation Milan, Italy

A giant armchair in Piazza Duomo Maestà Sofferente

La Maestà Soffrente by Gaetano Pesce is an 8-metre-high armchair, pierced like a Saint Sebastian which will appear in Piazza Duomo for the 2019 Fuorisalone. Tall and cumbersome, it will celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the creation of the Up 5 armchair, which together with the Up 6 footrest was designed by Gaetano Pesce for B&B Italia (ex Cassina&Busnelli).

It was 1969, and the armchair resembling a woman with a ball and chain was one of the symbols of the struggle for women's liberation. In short, still current issues.
