Santa Lucia alle Malve is a rock church located at the Sasso Caveoso of Matera, annexed to a Benedictine female monastery dating back to the 11th century. The religious building was dedicated to the patron saint of the eyes and the name mallow probably derives from the presence of the plant in the surrounding area. The church stands out among the others in the Matera area for the presence of numerous frescoes, still well preserved today, and an architectural structure of exquisite workmanship.
