Nosy Ve is an uninhabited coral island three kilometers off Anakao in the far southwest, with deserted white-sand beaches and low vegetation with little shade. This island is a sacred place for the Vezo people, where every year the locals sacrifice zebu according to traditional rituals. Nozy Ve is home to the world's southernmost breeding colony of red-tailed tropical birds, which attracts ornithologists from all over the world.
