Antsiranana (known until 1975 as Diego Suarez and sometimes called "The Pearl of the North") is the largest city in northern Madagascar, and capital of the province of the same name. Its port is the third most important in the country (the name Antsiranana means "port"). It is located at the northern tip of the island, in a natural bay (the second largest in the world) called Antsiranana Bay.
