Destroyed by the Great Fire of London in 1666, the cathedral was rebuilt in 1700 on the ashes of the previous one. Since then Sir Christopher Wren's masterpiece has been considered one of the undisputed symbols of the city.
Whether it can be reached by underground or on foot across the millenium bridge, the spectacle witnessed from Ludgate Hill is one of the most evocative in the city. Despite the City's many skyscrapers, the dome of St. Paul's Cathedral continues to dominate the London skyline. Walking down the 434 steps that lead to the top of the dome, 85 meters high, you can enjoy a 360° view over the whole city. Inside is an impressive collection of mosaics from the Venetian and British schools, funerary monuments and tombs of some of the best-known personalities in British history such as the architect Wren, Lord Wellington and Admiral Nelson.
