Marble Arch

Station London, United Kingdom

Marble Arch

The Tour starts from Marble Arch Station, which is located in the North East corner of Hyde Park, at the western end of Oxford Street. The decorative panels that embellish the tracks, with their bright colors, seem to scream to be admired by the crowds that pass through the underground streets every day.

In 1985, Annabel Gray, creator of the Finsbury Park mosaics, created 17 panels in two years by joining enamelled pieces, which were then connected to steel sheets and screwed to the walls. The original station was inaugurated on 30 July 1900, but was completely rebuilt in the early 1930s to house the lifts. The original building, designed by Harry Bell Measures, was demolished and the station entrance moved further west to where it stands today.
